Fuma contemporary art will hold a solo exhibition of popular sculptor Ayako Kita.
Her work combines acrylics and wood to express the uncertainty and ambiguity of existence.
Her sculpture of a transparent girl embodies the concept of contradiction.
“I want to see what I can’t see” she says.
It’s like admiring a tank full of beautiful fish. It’s best viewed from a few steps away, but we can’t help peering closer.
She continues to work with wood and acrylic. She feels a particular attraction to the characteristics of acrylic. A material with a solid shape, but that's transparent and difficult to see.
Her recent work incorporates mosaic body parts so that the figures become less defined and more vague. This allows the viewer to project their own thoughts and imagination into the piece;
"Does this exist or not?"
"Is it me or someone else?"
"Do I like it, or hate it?"
"Is it good, or bad?"
"Happy, or sad?"
